Credentialing

Credentialing refers to both mandated licensure programs and voluntary certification programs. For example, all registered nurses must be licensed to practice. Board certification in various specialty areas (e.g., pediatrics, oncology), however, is voluntary.

HumRRO supports a number of certification and licensure programs representing a wide variety of occupations. In many cases, we serve as the primary testing contractor in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the testing program. In some cases, we have assumed primary support of existing programs. In either case, there are routine test scoring and maintenance activities that are done continuously and other activities, such as job analysis, that are repeated every few years. HumRRO also provides ancillary support to certification and licensure test programs by independently auditing their procedures or providing supplementary support (e.g., psychometric analysis, job/practice analysis) to their in-house staff or primary testing contractor.

Although our specific responsibilities vary across clients, HumRRO generally becomes involved in the following aspects of credentialing programs:

  • job analysis,
  • test/assessment design,
  • eligibility and recertification requirements,
  • test development and maintenance,
  • standard setting, and
  • test scoring.
